The island’s national park with the remarkable fir forests on Mount Ainos, the many lakes and the rivers are frequently visited destinations. An outstanding attraction is Lake Melissani, a subterranean lake in a stalactite cave. Besides Greek specialities, the local cuisine is mainly dominated by Italian influences. Cephalonia’s captiol is Argostoli. The city was destroyed in an earthquake in 1953 and obtained a modern cityscape later on. Argostoli is also the starting point for the bus lines, that distend all over the island. Small shops, restaurants and cosy tavernas add an adorable charme to the city. Tiny villages and scenic towns, in the white and blue Greek style are allocated all over the beautiful island.
