If arriving by plane to Bologna or Bergamo, you will be picked up from the airport and transferred to the hotel.Check-in at the Grand Hotel de la Ville. In the early evening, a music historian will give a lecture during a standing reception with finger food. She will discuss the Emilia-Romagna region and the life's work of Giuseppe Verdi, as well as shedding light on the rarely performed Messa da Requiem. Afterwards, we will enjoy dinner together (4-course menu including wine and table water) at Parizzi Ristorante. This exclusive restaurant is about a ten-minute walk from the hotel.
Day 2 – Friday, 23 October After breakfast, our tour guide and driver will meet us at around 9 a.m. for an excursion to the violin-making town of Cremona (travel time approx. one hour). We will visit the Museo del Violino. It is world-famous for its collection of stringed instruments made by renowned Italian violin makers, including Antonio Stradivari and Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù. We will have lunch at the stylish Osteria del Melograno. Afterwards, we will visit the Casa Stradivari. Thanks to the restoration and revitalisation project sponsored by the Casa Stradivari Foundation, the house has been welcoming visitors again since 2023. Here, young craftsmen are trained to become master violin makers and supported with specialisation courses. After these unique impressions, we will make our way back to Parma and make a short stop in Roncole, the birthplace of Giuseppe Verdi. You will have the opportunity to take photos in front of the bust of his birthplace. We will be back at the hotel at 6 p.m. There will be time before we take a 15-minute walk to the Teatro Regio di Parma at 7:30 p.m. to enjoy the evening performance of the Messa da Requiem from the best seats in the stalls. We will then return to the hotel and a review the performance at the hotel bar.
Day 3 – Saturday, 24 October After breakfast, we will head to Modena, the birthplace of Luciano Pavarotti. There we will meet our tour guide for the day at around 10:00 a.m. He will introduce us to the historic city center and some of its special buildings and sights. These include: - Piazza Grande. This is the vibrant centre of the city. As in many Italian centri storici, this is where city life takes place. – Modena Cathedral (Cattedrale metropolitana di Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo e San Geminiano), a Roman Catholic church in the Romanesque style. It is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Modena-Nonantola and was consecrated in 1184. The cathedral is one of the most important Romanesque buildings in Europe. – Torre Ghirlandina is the cathedral's striking bell tower and the city's most important landmark. It represents Modena and symbolises religious tradition, civic pride and historical continuity. To this day, it remains a central point of identification for the city's residents. Construction began in the 12th century and combines Romanesque architecture with later Gothic elements. It owes its name "Ghirlandina" to the filigree marble balustrades at its top, which are reminiscent of garlands. With a height of about 86 metres, it dominates the city's skyline. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, which also includes the cathedral and Piazza Grande. On the way to the restaurant for lunch, we visit the Mercato Albinelli. The lively Italian atmosphere will appeal to all your senses and you can look forward to a delicious lunch! Emilia-Romagna is world-renowned as the "gourmet region" of Europe. Many cities have their own products that have made them famous. In this context, the name Modena stands for what is probably the best vinegar in Italy, if not Europe. A visit to an acetaia is therefore a very pleasant must. Let yourself be surprised by the fascinating aromas and convinced by the quality of the typical balsamic vinegar. After many impressive impressions, we will drive back to Parma at around 4:30 p.m. and arrive at the hotel at around 5:30 p.m. Afterwards, you will have some time to prepare for the evening performance. At 7:30 p.m., we will meet in the lobby and walk together to the Teatro Regio to experience the performance of Nabucco with the world-famous song "Va, pensiero" by the prisoners' choir from the best seats in the stalls.
