Music and Opera Festival in Malta

March 1st, 2017
1st day - Welcome in Malta!

It is less than 3 hours flight with AirMalta from MUC, FRA, DUS, BER (TXL), VIE or ZHR to Malta. After the arrival you will be welcomed by your tour guide and transferred to the hotel. Depending on your arrival time you will be informed during a ‚welcome drink‘ about the further itinerary.

March 2nd, 2017
2nd day - Capitol flair and the history of Malta

Valetta with its various old buildings, fortresses, churches and hospitals is the only capital in the world heritage of the UNESCO. You will explore the city by foot. You will visit the St. John’s Co cathedral with the ledgers of the chevaliers and the painting from Caravaggio showing the beheading of John the Baptist. The multi vision show ‚Malta Experience‘ illustrates the exiting history of Malta. In the archeology museum you will see unique exhibits of the Neolithic Period. In the end, the vivid market and the several shops with international flair invite you to a shopping tour.
Exclusive music event: After the mid day break, concert with harp and flute in the Anglican St. Paul’s cathedral in Valetta.

March 3rd, 2017
3rd day - Culture, nature and culinary delicacies

First, you will visit Mosta. The small town impresses by the imposing cathedral, of which the dome is the fourth largest in Europe. In the quarry museum Limestone Heritage of Siggiewi you will learn everything about the history of the limestone production, the most important building material in Malta. Mediterranean atmosphere expects you in the fishing village Marsaxlokk with its famous colored fishing boats. You will find yourself back in the Stone Age in Hagar Qim, the gigantic Temple complex. In the Blue Grotto you will be enchanted by a play of colors (boat trip not in the price included).
Culinary highlight: In a fish bar a typical fish food will be served.

March 4th, 2017
4th day - full day at your disposal

Relax, or explore Malta on your own - the tour guide will give you handy hints.
Our offer: Utilize the day for a harbor cruise through the branched, natural harbor, the Grand Harbour. Price on site: 35 EUR
Music highlight in the evening:
Le Nozze di Figaro, Figaros’ wedding, is an opera from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The first performance was in May, 1st in 1786 in the Wiener Burgtheater. The plot of the opera is a continuation of Beaumarchais’ the Barbier of Sevilla from 1775. An enchanting opera with subtle humor and the famous aries.

March 5th, 2017
5th day - Mdina, Rabat and mid day concert

The day begins with a relaxing walk through the botanic gardens of San Anton. Afterwards you will explore Mdina, the former capitol, with its narrow alleys where it seems to be that you are in the era of the knights. In the museum of the St. Paul cathedral you will see the unique collection of copper engravings made my Albrecht Dürer. In the neighbouring Rabat you will wander on the track of the Apostel Paulus. The diverse nature of Malta presents itself during a panoramic ride through the Buskett gardens to the wild romantic cliff coast of Dingli.

March 6th, 2017
6th day - The island of Gozo: Natural wonder and Stone Age Temple

With the ferry you will arrive in Gozo. Walk trough the capitol Victoria with its beautiful citadels and enjoy the fantastic view across the island from the city wall. Further to the bays Xlendi and Marsalforn. The temple Ggantija takes you to the Neolithic period. Be amazed by Gozos’ naturals wonders: the mighty Fungus Rock, which towers like a giant Fungus out of the water and the famous Azur Window, 100 meters long and 20 meters high, which shows the azure blue sea. Besides lies the inland lake.

March 7th, 2017
7th day - The ‚three old cities‘, Valetta and chamber concert

From the Upper Barracca gardens you will have a wonderful view of the three old cities Singlia, Vittoriosa and Cospicua. After a walk through Valetta we will visit the Grandmaster Palast. You will drive to Vittoriosa, the first of the three old cities. In this place was the first head quarter of the Knights of St. John, built around 1530. From Senglea you have a fantastic view at Valetta.
Exclusive music event: In the afternoon chamber concert in the baroque hall of the Palazzo Parisio in Naxxar.
Culinary highlight: today we serve the national dish ‚Fenkata‘ (rabbit) in a typical maltese restaurant near the hotel. Originally served in two courses: as the starter the spicy sauce with spaghetti, as the main course the rabbit pieces with potatoes - bon appetit!

March 8th, 2017
8th day - Good-bye Malta

Transfer to the airport, flight back with Air Malta to Germany.

Airport supplement:
Dusseldorf/Vienna 10 EUR, Frankfurt/Berlin-Tegel/Zurich 15 EUR

From June, 1st 2016 the visitor´s tax is raised to 0,50 EUR per adult per day, respectively a maximum of 5 EUR per person and stay. The hotel charges this fee at your arrival.
